Kick off meeting and SiC Workshop on PhD supervision

The Kick Off Meeting of NANODRUG took place on 9th and 10th November 2011 at the Université Catholique de Louvain, Belgium, Brussels and was organised jointly by Prof. Véronique Préat and Dr Marina Resmini.

This first meeting of the NANODRUG project was very useful in order to let the Partners know each other and to allow the necessary communication among the partners for an exchange of knowledge and best practises. Each partner gave a presentation to introduce itself and its group, their institutions and to explain their research field in details. It became very clear how well assorted this Network was with highly interdisciplinary yet complementary teams. In addition, Dr Ian Forristal, from the QMUL Learning Institute, lead and delivered an interesting workshop on PhD supervision focusing on the ITN requirements and agreeing a common approach and framework. The teams engaged discussions on best practice, managing projects and supporting student progress. There was also a long session that focussed on the major aspects of the administrative issues of the Network set by the European Commission. Some preliminary discussions on the scientific objectives, plans and procedures to be carried out in each teams and work packages were also carried out. It was a very useful meeting for all partners, especially those new to working in a research training network funded by the European Commission.
